A Morning Spent Glazing

Glazing is a lovely point in the process of making ceramics.  To me it feels like a quiet chance to slow down, contemplate how I want a piece to look, and anticipate the beauty that will await me after it’s fired.  Of course, sometimes there is disappointment waiting inside the kiln, but during this moment that’s all suspended and every piece holds the potential to be perfect.

The raw materials in the liquid glazes are transformed with time and heat into deep, colourful surfaces, which makes every kiln opening a truly exciting ritual.
